- …Dr. Martin Seligment and Dr. Karen Reivich amongst others have studied and outlined the path to highest resilience. Just as a good pair of running shoes and a healthy diet may be a prerequisite to physical health, specific factors are precursors to the ability to bounce back and even grow from negative emotional experiences. These essential elements fall under the domains of biology, self-awareness, self-regulation, mental agility, self-efficacy (or mastery), connections (or attachments), positive institutions, purpose, and optimism. Within each of these domains lies many particular facets which when interwoven and built upon one another create a resilience strong enough to propel us beyond survival to flourishing.
